Hi.  My name is Jesse Ulibarri.  I am an IT professional in the Denver, CO area.  I’ve lived in Colorado most of my life and moved to Denver in 2006.  My interests outside of work include spending time with my wife, stepdaughter and family, enjoying a good cup of coffee, mastering the art of making green chili, driving for UBER, and of course… Model Rocketry.

This blog is about the last.

I have been learning and building model rockets actively since July of 2016.  Before that, I got started in model rocketry at around 12 years old after having to build a rocket for Mr. Buffalo’s shop class in middle school.  Since then I was hooked!  Before starting 7th grade, I worked part of the summer with my dad on the farm that he managed, de-weeding onion fields and doing some irrigation to earn enough money to support my hobby.  During this same time, I also started to build model cars and other plastic kits.  My love had always swayed to the rockets, simply because they could be used over and over.

After the summer of 9th grade leading into my sophomore year of high school, I stopped doing rockets and models as I was old enough then to work on cars and driving.  I was 16 at that time, and I hung up my brushes and Testor’s paints for car parts and stereo equipment.

After high school, I moved to the Dallas/Ft Worth area to live with my brother and attend school.  I never made it far there, but during my time in the DFW area in the 90s, I built a few more rocket kits including a Comanche-3 and any Alpha series I could shoot off with my buddy Joey.  When I moved back to CO in 1997, I had a few more kits on and off until I moved out on my own in 2001.  Since 2001, I had NOT built a rocket or model, instead I dabbled in music and studied bass guitar with my friends.

Fast Forward to last year, when my wife and family decided to get a house closer to work.  I found myself with a place to do stuff.  At the time, the wife was supportive, as I didn’t feel like picking up a guitar and committing to a band or group as I have a pretty active work schedule.  I found a few model kits in a Michael’s store in my current home town, and it went off from there!
